Singapore stocks close 0.8 pct lower

SINGAPORE, March 31 (Xinhua) -- Singapore stocks closed lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going down 0.8 percent, or 25.55 points, to close at 3,165.34.

A total of 1.73 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.52 billion Singapore dollars (about 1.13 billion U.S. dollars). Losers outnumbered gainers by 310 to 172.

The STI index went up 0.48 percent, or 15.32 points, to close at 3,190.89 on Tuesday. Enditem
