Malaysia reports 1,854 new COVID-19 cases, 5 more deaths

KUALA LUMPUR, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia reported 1,854 new COVID-19 infections, the health ministry said on Friday, bringing the national total to 357,607.

Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press statement that 20 of the new cases are imported and with 1,834 being local transmissions.

Five more deaths have been reported, bringing the death toll to 1,313.

Another 1,247 patients have been released after recovery, bringing the total number of cured and discharged to 341,489 or 95.5 percent of all cases.

Of the remaining 14,805 active cases, 169 are being held in intensive care units and 79 of those are in need of assisted breathing. Enditem
