6.1-magnitude earthquake hits central Indonesia, no potential for tsunami

JAKARTA, April 10 (Xinhua) -- Another 6.1-magnitude quake rocked North Sulawesi province in central parts of Indonesia Saturday, but it was not potential for a a tsunami, an official in charge at the meteorology and geophysics agency Andry Sembiring told Xinhua via phone.

The quake struck at 16:30 Jakarta time (0930 GMT) with the epicenter at 94 km northwest Tahuna town of Sangihe islands district and the depth at 295 km under seabed, he said.

Previously, a 6.1-magnitude earthquake jolted East Java in west Indonesia at 14:00 Jakarta time (0700 GMT) on Saturday, but it did not potentially trigger a tsunami either, the agency said. Enditem
