JAKARTA, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Tropical cyclone Surigae, formed in Indonesia's Papua province, is moving towards the Philippines, Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency said on Wednesday.

The agency's head Dwikorita Karnawati said Surigae is moving at a wind speed of up to 75 km per hour and will strengthen in the next 24 hours.

"Surigae is expected to develop into a strong tropical storm and even typhoon on April 16, 2021," Karnawati explained.

The agency's Deputy for Meteorology Guswanto has warned of heavy rains, strong winds, and sea waves of up to six meters high as an impact of this tropical cyclone.

"Wind speed and sea waves will increase until they peak on April 18, 2021," said Guswanto.

The agency urged residents to be aware of the continued impacts of strong winds and heavy rains, such as floods, flash floods, and landslides. Enditem
