NEW DELHI, April 21 (Xinhua) -- Three employees of India's Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) Limited were abducted by unidentified gunmen on Wednesday in the country's northeastern state of Assam, the company confirmed.
The abductees included two Junior Engineer Assistants (Production) and one Junior Technician (Production). They were abducted from a site of the ONGC in Lakwa field of Sivasagar district in Assam.
"The abducted employees were taken by the miscreants in an operational vehicle belonging to ONGC. Later, the vehicle was found abandoned near the Nimonagarh jungles close to the Assam-Nagaland border," tweeted the ONGC.
The company lodged a complaint with the local police. Higher officials of the state police have reached the site.
The local administration has been informed about the incident and the company is in constant touch with the higher authorities, said a statement released by the ONGC.
The ONGC, India's biggest oil and gas exploration and production company, has been exploring and producing oil and gas in upper reaches of Assam since early 1960s. Enditem
