ULAN BATOR, April 22 (Xinhua) -- A batch of 50,400 doses of COVID-19 vaccines has arrived in Mongolia through the COVAX mechanism, the country's Health Ministry said Thursday.

The AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccines landed in the country's capital Ulan Bator on a chartered flight on Wednesday night, the ministry said in a statement.

COVAX is a global initiative to promote quick and equal access to COVID-10 vaccines around the world.

Through COVAX, Mongolia has received 14,400 doses of AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccines in mid-March, and 25,740 doses of Pfizer vaccines in late March.

The country launched a COVID-19 vaccination campaign across the country in February, with the aim of vaccinating at least 60 percent of its 3.3 million population, and 20 percent of them will be vaccinated under COVAX, according to the ministry. Enditem
