Japanese minesweeper collides with fishing boat off southwestern coast of Japan

TOKYO, May 7 (Xinhua) -- A Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force minesweeper and a Japanese fishing boat collided off the coast of Saga Prefecture in southwestern Japan on Friday, local media reported.

According to Maritime Self-Defense Force (MSDF) and Coast Guard officials, the incident took place at about 3:30 p.m. local time between the minesweeper Takashima and the fishing boat from Kumamoto Prefecture.

So far no injuries have been reported among the crew of the two vessels.

The collision occurred about 4 km north of Kakarashima Island, Karatsu City.

No oil spill has been observed and both vessels are able to sail on their own, according to the officials.

The accident is under investigation by the MSDF and Coast Guard. Enditem
