Lightning, rain-related incidents kill 15 in India's Bihar

NEW DELHI, May 13 (Xinhua) -- At least 15 people were killed and nine others injured due to lightning and rain-related incidents in India's eastern state of Bihar, officials said Thursday.

Heavy rains and thunderstorms lashed the state on Wednesday evening.

According to the state-run broadcaster All India Radio (AIR), the deaths were reported across eight districts of the state.

"The Meteorological department has predicted heavy rains and lightning in different parts of the state in the next 24 hours," the broadcaster said Thursday. "People have been advised to remain indoors during the natural calamity."

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has expressed grief over incidents and announced monetary relief for the victims' families. Enditem
