1 killed, 2 hospitalized in mine collapse in Australian state

SYDNEY, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- One man was killed and two others were taken to hospital in a coal mine collapse in Australian state of Queensland.

The incident at the Gregory Crinum Mine in Central Queensland happened on late Tuesday night, in which a 60-year-old man suffered significant injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene, and two others were hospitalized with one of them in serious condition, according to report by the national broadcaster ABC.

Operation at the mine has been suspended.

Queensland Minister for Resources Scott Stewart said in a statement on Wednesday that any loss of life on mine sites is unacceptable, and the incident will be investigated thoroughly and with diligence.

The statement said three people from Queensland Mines Inspectorate are on site and have begun investigation into the nature and cause of the incident. Enditem
