Malaysia reports 15,759 new COVID-19 cases, total deaths at 24,000 mark

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia reported another 15,759 new COVID-19 infections, as of midnight Tuesday, bringing the national total to 2,127,934, according to the health ministry.

Some 27 of the new cases are imported and 15,732 are local transmissions, data released on the ministry's website showed.

Another 334 more deaths have been reported, bringing the death toll to 24,078.

About 16,650 patients have been released after recovery, bringing the total number of cured and discharged to 1,897,383.

Of the remaining 206,473 active cases, 1,116 are being held in intensive care and 635 of those are in need of assisted breathing.

The country reported 261,255 doses administered on Tuesday alone and some 68 percent of the population have received at least one dose and 57.5 percent are fully vaccinated. Enditem
