SEOUL, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's automotive export logged a double-digit fall last month amid a continued shortage of semiconductors used for cars, a government report showed Friday.

The number of exported vehicles stood at 151,689 in September, down 20.7 percent from a year earlier, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

It came as the supply disruption of chips used for cars continued amid the lower number of business days, as a result of the traditional Chuseok holiday.

In terms of value, the automotive shipment reduced 6.1 percent to 3.56 billion U.S. dollars last month due to robust global demand for high-priced, environment-friendly vehicles.

Export for environment-friendly vehicles soared 46.8 percent to 1.04 billion dollars in the month.

The number of cars produced in local factories was 229,423 in September, down 33.1 percent from a year earlier.

The domestic sale of locally-made vehicles tumbled 33.8 percent in September on a yearly basis, with the local sale of imported cars skidding 7.0 percent.

The shipment of automotive parts declined 5.1 percent to 1.85 billion dollars last month. Enditem
