NEW DELHI, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- India's GDP for the second quarter from July to September of the current financial year increased by 8.4 percent from last year, showed data released on Tuesday by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.

The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) stood at 35.73 trillion Indian Rupees (475 billion U.S. dollars) as against 32.97 trillion Indian Rupees (439 billion U.S. dollars) in the Second Quarter of the previous financial year.

This was a growth of 8.4 percent as compared to the 7.4-percent contraction in quarter 2 of the financial year 2020-21, added the ministry.

The GDP figures assume significance in the backdrop of the second COVID-19 wave which gripped the nation from April to July.

The next release of quarterly GDP estimates for the third quarter from October to December of 2021-22 will be on Feb. 28. Enditem
