Kidnapped child freed in N. Afghanistan: official

MAZAR-I-SHARIF, Afghanistan, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- A kidnapped eight-year-old girl, daughter of a physician, was freed following a raid in Afghanistan's northern province of Balkh on Thursday, a provincial police source confirmed on Friday.

"The raid was launched by special forces of Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Dihdadi district, in the south of provincial capital, Mazar-i-Sharif. One kidnapper was killed and nine suspected men were arrested during the raid," Qari Abdul Hai Abid from provincial police told reporters.

The child was abducted near a private school in Mazar-i-Sharif on Tuesday, according to Abid.

Mohammad Dawod Rateb, father of the freed child, who is in charge of the drug addiction section of the Balkh provincial public health department, received his child and thanked the provincial police officials, Abid said. Enditem
