Two officers killed during Russia anti-terror operation

MOSCOW, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Two law enforcement officers were killed during a counter-terrorism operation in Russia's Chechen Republic on Tuesday, according to the country's National Guard.

During operational-search activities in the Oktyabrsky district of the Chechen capital Grozny, law enforcers clashed with armed criminals, the National Guard said in a statement, adding that two of its officers were killed and another wounded.

The National Anti-Terrorism Committee said that the suspects were asked to surrender, but they opened fire in response, adding that four of them were neutralized.

The site of the shootout is being inspected and an investigation is underway, the committee said. Enditem
