GENEVA, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- The fourth round of the 5+5 Libyan Joint Military Commission (JMC) talks started here on Monday morning under the auspices of the United Nations and the Acting Special Representative of the UN Secretary General to Libya Stephanie Williams.
A UN source said that the launching of the new round of talks was marked by in-person meetings between the delegations of the two parties to the conflict in Libya. The meeting began with the playing of the Libyan national anthem.
Five senior officers appointed by Libya's Government of National Accord (GNA) and five senior officers appointed by the Libyan National Army (LNA) were participating in the talks.
The work of the 5+5 JMC, or the security track, is one of the three intra-Libyan tracks that the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) is working on, along with the economic and political tracks.
These tracks were endorsed by UN Security Council Resolution 2510 (2020), which called on both parties to reach an agreement for a permanent ceasefire.
The deliberations of this round are expected to continue until Oct. 24. Enditem
