ATHENS, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- Enhanced cooperation among Greece, Cyprus and Israel in recent years in many fields in the context of their tripartite partnership is a guarantee for security, Greek Foreign Affairs Minister Nikos Dendias said here on Tuesday, calling on other countries to join in the initiative.

The invitation was extended jointly with his counterparts of Cyprus and Israel, Nikos Christodoulides and Gabi Ashkenazi, respectively, during joint statements made to the press after their meeting in Athens.

"Within a few months we resolved differences pending for half a century and we set a bright example on how peace and stability can be safeguarded in our region. Our fundamental principle is respect for international law and promotion of good neighborly ties. I think we showed to the international community how states nowadays can resolve issues through agreements or by resorting to international courts," Dendias said, according to Greek national broadcaster ERT.

The Greek official pointed to recent agreements signed between Greece and Italy on delimitation of maritime borders and an agreement with Albania to take their dispute over sea borders to the International Court of Justice.

The Israeli minister talked about windows of opportunity opening up between different countries and different cultures in the region in recent months, stressing that the aim is to further strengthen cooperation for peace, security, stability and prosperity, Greek national news agency AMNA reported.

"Undoubtedly the pandemic has highlighted more the significance of regional cooperation and multilateralism. Now maybe more than ever it becomes obvious that solutions to common challenges can come only through synergies," Christodoulides said on his part, according to ERT. Enditem
