BERLIN, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- The organizers of the Berlin International Film Festival, usually called the Berlinale, presented the film selection for this year's event on Thursday, naming the 15 movies that will compete for the Golden and Silver Bear awards.

Besides four film by German directors, the French production "Albatros" by Xavier Beauvois and the Japanese production "Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy" by Ryusuke Hamaguchi are also among the nominees.

The lineup of the 71st Berlinale includes films that "endured the pandemic" either during shooting, editing or post-production, Berlinale noted in a statement.

"If the competition offers a picture of the cinema as it is and as it will be, we can say that the disruption brought on by the events of 2020 has led filmmakers to make the most of this situation and create deeply personal films," said Carlo Chatrian, artistic director of Berlinale.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the film festival is split in two events this year. A digital meeting of the film industry is planned in March, while films would be presented during a "Summer Special" to the audiences in partnership with indoor and outdoor theaters in Berlin in June. Enditem
