BERLIN, April 6 (Xinhua) -- Around 35,000 general practitioners (GPs) in Germany started to administer COVID-19 vaccinations on Tuesday, more than three months after the start of the vaccination campaign in the country.

So far, vaccinations have only been conducted by 430 special vaccination centers or mobile teams in Germany. For the next two weeks, 940,000 BioNTech/Pfizer vaccine doses will be delivered to GPs, according to the Ministry of Health.

Vaccines from AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson will be delivered to doctors' offices in Germany at the end of April. According to the ministry, the vaccination centers in German federal states will continue to be supplied with more than two million vaccine doses per week.

Four vaccines have been approved in the European Union, including BioNTech/Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson. Due to cases of cerebral vein thrombosis in connection with immunization, the AstraZeneca vaccine is generally limited to people over 60 years of age in Germany.

More than 4.5 million people in Germany had been fully vaccinated as of Monday, bringing the country's vaccination rate to 5.5 percent, according to official data.

To date, Germany has recorded over 2.9 million COVID-19 infections and 77,103 deaths, according to the Robert Koch Institute. Enditem
