ATHENS, April 20 (Xinhua) -- Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said Tuesday that the country will always promote a positive agenda for peace, stability, development and prosperity for all people across the Eastern Mediterranean, the Balkans and the Middle East.

However, as the world is faced with new threats and the region is becoming more unstable, Greece will continue to expand its defense capabilities, said Mitsotakis during a multinational military training exercise hosted in western Greece.

"Greece will always promote a positive agenda based on shared values, adherence to international law and the law of the sea, the rules of good neighborly relations and the mutual respect that must always permeate the relations between modern countries," the prime minister said while delivering a speech at Andravida air base, Greek national broadcaster ERT reported.

The air base in northwest Peloponnese peninsula is where the command center of the exercise "Iniochos 2021" is located. The exercise runs from April 12 to April 22, according to a Hellenic Air Force (HAF) press release.

The exercise is taking place along the width of the Athens Flight Information Center with the participation of all branches of Greece's Armed Forces and forces from the United States, France, Cyprus, Israel, Spain, United Arab Emirates and Canada.

Greece has hosted the annual exercise "Iniochos" for over 30 years, Mitsotakis said on Tuesday, noting that it is one of the most dynamic, demanding and competitive military exercises in the region.
