BERLIN, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Due to a supply shortage of semiconductor parts, German carmaker Audi is partially stopping production at its Neckarsulm site next week, the company confirmed to Xinhua on Friday.

Production for the A6 and A7 models will be halted from April 26 to April 30, according to Audi. Affected employees would be on short-time work, the Augsburger Allgemeine Zeitung first reported.

"The situation around semiconductor supply is complex and volatile," an Audi spokesperson told Xinhua, adding that the company is monitoring the development closely and "reassessing the situation on a weekly basis."

As a precautionary measure, Audi also registered for short-time work at a second German production site in Ingolstadt. A decision on which specific operations will be affected would be made in the short term, according to the company.

The global bottlenecks for electronic chips are also forcing other German automakers to interrupt production. Volkswagen has already sent thousands of employees on short-time work.

Daimler had to reduce production at two locations as well. The company announced on Wednesday that passenger car production would be curtailed at two factories and that short-time work would initially be applied from April 23 till the beginning of May. Enditem
