BERLIN, June 17 (Xinhua) -- Memphis Depay and Denzel Dumfries were on target and helped the Netherlands to ease 2-0 past Austria at the Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam on Thursday.
The Dutchmen ensured a perfect start in front of home crowd by courtesy on David Alaba's foul play to Dumfries inside the box. Depay stepped up and hammered the subsequent penalty into the bottom right corner to give the hosts the lead with 11 minutes gone.
Austria had a tough time to keep rolling hosts at bay in the first half but with the start of the second half the visitors looked more comfortable.
The Netherlands sealed the deal at the hour mark as Frank de Boer's side clinically finished off a counterattack via Donyell Malen and Denzel Dumfries, who slotted home into the empty goal.
With the second win in as many games, the Netherlands (6 points) secure a first-place finish in Group C. Ukraine (3 points) sits on the second placed followed by Austria (3 points) and winless North Macedonia (0 points). Enditem
