Germany's Delivery Hero invests in grocery delivery startup Gorillas

BERLIN, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- German food delivery giant Delivery Hero took a minority stake in Berlin-based on-demand grocery delivery startup Gorillas, the company said on Tuesday.

With an investment of 235 million U.S. dollars, Delivery Hero led the series C funding round of Gorillas and now holds around eight percent of the startup, according to the company.

"Delivery Hero is on a mission to advance quick commerce globally and we see Gorillas as one of the leaders in Europe and the U.S.," CEO and Co-Founder Niklas Oestberg said in a statement.

Chinese tech giant Tencent and global investor Coatue also participated in the funding round, which brought Gorillas an additional 1 billion dollars, valuating the company at around 2.1 billion dollars. Enditem
