TEHRAN, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Monday that his country does not endorse Turkey's approach to the current issues in northern Syria.

"The (current) incidents in the north of Syria are not good for the entire region ... We all should try to protect the negotiations for peace process in Syria," said Rouhani in a press conference in the capital Tehran.

Acknowledging Turkey's security concerns in northern Syria, Rouhani urges the presence of Syrian army in the region as a means to address them.

The Iranian president called on Turkey to remain committed to the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of Syria.

Following recent withdrawal of the U.S. troops from northern Syria, Turkish army on Wednesday launched an assault in the region on Kurdish fighters whom Ankara considers as "terrorists."
