China's SHEIN website tops e-commerce fashion sales in Israel

JERUSALEM, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- The China-based international fashion e-commerce platform SHEIN has become the most popular fashion website in Israel, according to a data report published on Sunday by Cal, a leading Israeli credit card company.

According to the report, purchases by Israelis at the fashion website in August were for the first time higher than the total purchases at the British fashion websites Asos and Next.

Out of the Israeli fashion consumers on the leading international websites, 62 percent purchased at SHEIN website, 21 percent at Next, and 17 percent at Asos.

For comparison, in August 2019, the trend was opposite, with 38 percent buying at Next, 35 percent at Asos, and only 27 percent at SHEIN.

The data showed that there has been a continuous increase in Israelis' purchases in SHEIN since 2019, peaked in August this year with an increase of 413 percent compared with the average of July-August last year.

Also, the number of transactions by Israelis on the SHEIN website increased by 365 percent in August, compared with July-August 2019.

According to the data, all fashion purchases by Israelis reached a total of 106 million new shekels (30.6 million U.S. dollars) in August, 2.2 times higher than the number in August 2019.

The data published by Cal refers to purchases of the entire payment market, including customers of other credit card companies and payment platforms.

With business covering 220 countries, Shenzhen-based SHEIN focuses on women's wear, but it also offers men's apparel, children's clothes, accessories, shoes, bags, and other fashion items.
