BEIRUT, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese President Michel Aoun emphasized on Tuesday that indirect border talks with Israel would only be technical, a statement by Lebanese Presidency reported.

"The negotiations are technical and talks should be limited to this particular issue, maritime borders, only," Aoun said one day ahead of the U.S.-mediated negotiations on the disputed maritime borders.

Aoun's remarks came during his meeting with the delegation that will hold negotiations in addition to Lebanon's Army Commander Joseph Aoun and caretaker Defense Minister Zeina Akar.

Aoun re-assured that talks do not mean that Lebanon will normalize ties with Israel.

Aoun noted that a solution should be reached "that protects the sovereign rights of the Lebanese people."

Lebanon appointed on Monday members of the delegation who will be holding on Wednesday indirect talks with Israel on demarcation of land and maritime borders.

Lebanon has an unresolved maritime border with Israel that involves a triangular sea area of about 860 square km extending along the edge of three of its 10 offshore energy blocks. Enditem
