JERUSALEM, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Israel on Friday announced that the country was taking steps to normalize ties with Sudan.

"Today we are announcing a dramatic breakthrough for peace," read a statement by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday evening, "What a great revolution."

According to the statement, delegations from Sudan and Israel will soon meet to discuss cooperation in various fields, including agriculture and trade.

Sudan has opened its sky to Israeli aircrafts, which makes direct and shorter flights between Israel and Africa and South America possible, the statement said.

The agreement between Sudan and Israel comes as part of a series of agreements that are changing the political map of the Middle East. Israel recently normalized ties with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain. Enditem
