BAGHDAD, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- Iraqi security forces killed an unspecified number of "terrorists" who allegedly attacked government-backed paramilitary fighters and killed four near the capital Baghdad, the Iraqi military said Friday.

The Iraqi army killed "a group of terrorists during the past two days after tracking them more than 10 hours in the al-Radwaniyah area southwest of Baghdad," the media office of the Joint Operations Command (JOC) said in a statement, without providing more details about the operation.

On Nov. 9, a JOC statement said Islamic State (IS) militants attacked at night a military position manned by a government-backed paramilitary Sunni group known as Sahwa, or Awakening Council force, at a village in the al-Radwaniyah area, killing four and wounding three others.

The security situation in Iraq has been improving since Iraqi security forces fully defeated the IS militants across the country late in 2017.

However, IS remnants have since melted in urban areas, deserts and rugged areas, carrying out frequent guerilla attacks against security forces and civilians. Enditem
