RAMALLAH, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- A senior Palestinian official said on Tuesday that he is holding talks in Moscow with Russian officials.

Hussein el-Sheikh, a member of the central committee of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah Movement, said in a press statement that he met in Moscow with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Al-Sheikh said that several subjects and issues related to the situation in the region had been discussed without adding more details.

Meanwhile, a Palestinian government source, who spoke to Xinhua on condition of anonymity, said that the talks focused on the preparations for holding the general elections in Palestine.

Wassel Abu Yousef, a member of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Executive Committee, told "Voice of Palestine" that the Palestinian political factions' leaders will convene in Ramallah on Wednesday.

The meeting will focus on "removing all obstacles that might influence the preparations" for holding the elections, he said. Enditem
