BAGHDAD, May 8 (Xinhua) -- The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned on Saturday Israeli forces' storming of Jerusalem's al-Aqsa Mosque that injured hundreds of Palestinians.

"The Iraqi government condemns the Israeli forces' storming of al-Aqsa Mosque, which led to the spread of intimidation and panic among the Palestinian worshippers," the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry expressed Iraq's solidarity with the Palestinians and called on the Israeli forces to end the acts against the Palestinians, the statement said.

The clashes erupted on Friday when Israeli police forces stormed the yards of Al-Aqsa Mosque and fired rubber bullets and tear gas canisters to disperse dozens of demonstrators against Israel, leaving at least 205 Palestinians injured, according to Palestinian sources.

Tensions between Israelis and Palestinians have mounted recently as Israel has decided to resettle forcefully Palestinian families in Sheikh Jarrah, a predominantly Palestinian neighborhood in East Jerusalem. Enditem
