Key IS member arrested in E. Afghanistan: gov't

KABUL, June 10 (Xinhua) -- A key member of the Islamic State (IS) outfit was recently arrested in Afghanistan's eastern province of Nangarhar, the country's National Directorate of Security (NDS) announced on Thursday.

Mir Agha was arrested by the special operations forces of NDS in the suburban Bihsud district of Nangarhar during a recent operation, NDS, the country's national intelligence and security service, confirmed on the social media platform Twitter.

The arrested man was involved in scores of subversive activities, including terrorist attacks, kidnappings and launching bomb attacks against Afghan security forces, the agency said.

The IS group, which emerged in Nangarhar in early 2015, has not made comment on the report so far. Enditem
