ALGIERS, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from two explosions in the Algerian capital Algiers early Tuesday morning rose to 45, security sources said.

The sources said that 30 people were killed in an explosion targeting a school bus near the country's Supreme Court, while another 15 people were killed in another attack near a UN building in Algiers.

An early report said 20 were killed and 40 others wounded in the two blasts.

The footage of pan-Arab al-Jazeera satellite TV showed that the blast was so powerful that nearby buildings were badly damaged, scattering the cement fragments everywhere of the street.

Ambulances are rushing to the scene to evacuate the bodies and the wounded.

It is unknown yet whether al-Qaida is behind the blasts.
