BEIJING, March 11 (Xinhuanet) -- New York State Governor Eliot Spitzer who is known for corruption-fighting Monday apologized for the reportedly involvement with upscale prostitution ring but said nothing about resigning.
Born on June 10, 1959, to a Jewish immigrant family, Spitzer attended Princeton and Harvard, and then became an assistant district attorney in Manhattan.
Time Magazine named him "Crusader of the Year" in 2002 after his landmark settlement with 10 of the country's largest securities firms over charges of misleading investors.
During his time as attorney general, he earned a reputation for toughness and high ethical standards. His cases as attorney general included a few criminal prosecutions of prostitution rings and tourism involving prostitutes.
In 2004, he took part in an investigation of an escort service in New York City that resulted in the arrest of 18 people on charges of promoting prostitution and related charges.
He became governor in January last year, pledging to bring ethics reform.
At his inauguration, he used his address to say "we must transform our government so that it is as ethical and wise as all of New York."
Spitzer is married and has three daughters.
