Mongolian parliamentary parties agree to deal with riots with rule of law

ULAN BATOR, July 4 (Xinhua) -- Mongolian parliamentary parties on Friday agreed to deal with the recent riots by implementing the law, according to the presidential press office.

At a meeting initiated by Mongolian President Nambariin Enkhbayar, the parties including the Democratic Party, one of the organizers of Tuesday's violent protest, agreed to charge the participants of the riots under the law, the office said.

Riots in Ulan Bator have calmed down and 378 detainees have been released, the Mongolian National Security Council told the local press on Friday.

The Democratic Party would take legal step to ask the Mongolian General Election Commission for a recount of ballots in some of the election districts.

The Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party won the parliamentary elections held on Sunday. But supporters of the Democratic Party and other parties staged a protest on Tuesday against alleged voting fraud in the elections.

The protest soon turned into riots, with five people reportedly killed and more than 300 others injured. On the same day, President Enkhbayar declared a four-day state of emergency in the capital.
