Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force's new Type 10 armoured tank made its debut during an annual training session near Mt. Fuji at Higashifuji training field in Gotemba, west of Tokyo, August 21, 2012.

apanese Type 10 Main Battle Tank (MBT) is designed to replace Type 74 main battle tanks in the Japan Ground Self Defense Force.

Compromising a mixture of troops, tanks and helicopters the Japanese Ground Defence Force is the country's primary in-land defence as well as being trained to cope with emergencies.

An annual drill is held next to Mount Fiji In order to keep the SDF sharp and help them prepare any new tactics and equipment so they can be deployed at short notice.

Amid heightened strain between Japan and China over the Diaoyu Islands, the United States marines and Japan Self-Defense Force personnel will kick off a 37-day joint landing drill starting today, only adding more fuel to the flame.

An official of Japan’s Defense Ministry was quoted by the Sankei Shimbun as saying, “the U.S. and Japan conduct the drill aimed at retaking Diaoyu Islands in case they are invaded by Chinese military forces.” Full story
