1 dead in Tibet after Nepal's 8.1-magnitude earthquake

LHASA, April 25 (Xinhua) -- An 83-year-old woman was killed in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region after an 8.1-magnitude earthquake struck Nepal on Saturday afternoon, local authorities said.

According to the China Earthquake Networks Center, an 8.1-magnitude earthquake struck Nepal at 2:11 p.m. Saturday (Beijing Time).

The epicenter was monitored at 28.2 degrees north latitude and 84.7 degrees east longitude, and the focus of the quake was 20 kilometers deep, according to the center.

The woman was killed after her house collapsed in Nyelam County in Shigatse City, according to Wang Ping, Communist Party chief of the county.

The quake was felt in the cities of Lhasa and Shigatse (or Xigaze). Houses were damaged in Nyelam County, and telecommunications signals were interrupted in counties on the China-Nepal border.
