LONDON, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- A British national is among at least 129 people killed in the Paris attacks, the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) confirmed Saturday.

There are fears more British deaths will be confirmed, a government source was quoted by BBC as saying.

The FCO has handled around 400 calls overnight following the deadly attacks, according to Downing Street.

"While we have now confirmed the safety of many British citizens, we are concerned that a small number of British nationals have been caught up in the attack," a Downing Street spokesperson said after a cabinet emergency meeting chaired by Prime Minister David Cameron.

The spokesperson said the British Embassy in Paris was "working urgently with the French authorities to find out more and we have deployed additional consular staff and a team from the Metropolitan Police to assist them with this task."

Cameron, after chairing the emergency meeting, said that "we must be prepared for a number of British casualties" from the attacks in Paris.
