ISTANBUL, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- Turkish police detained eight Islamic State (IS)-linked suspects at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport, semi-official Anatolian Agency reported on Wednesday.

The eight Moroccans, who came from Casablanca, were planning to make their way to Germany posing as refugees, the agency quoted from police sources.

One of the suspects had a hand drawn picture of a planned route from Turkey to Germany via Greece, Serbia and Hungary, the Anadolu said.

The suspects told special criminal profiling teams at the airport that they arrived at Istanbul for tourism purpose and they had booked a hotel. But the police said the group has no such reservation after verification with the hotel.

Special criminal profiling teams have recently been formed by the Istanbul Security Directorate's Counter-terrorism and Intelligence Branch to prevent the participation to IS from other countries.

The teams have been working in Istanbul's Ataturk and Sabiha Gokcen airports, and in case of person of interest they have the authority to investigate and detain the suspects.
