Animation tops Chinese box office chart on Int'l Children's Day

BEIJING, June 2 (Xinhua) -- Animated film "Stand by Me Doraemon 2" dominated the Chinese box office on Tuesday, International Children's Day, according to the China Movie Data Information Network.

The latest installment of the Japanese animation franchise replaced "F9: The Fast Saga" and rose to the top of the box office chart with daily earnings of 55.25 million yuan (about 8.66 million U.S. dollars) on Tuesday.

"F9: The Fast Saga" ranked second as it ended its 12th screening day with 23.46 million yuan, the network said on Wednesday.

Another two children's films were among the top five films -- the domestically produced animation "Journey to the Center of the Deep Ocean" and live-action fantasy animation "Pinocchio," respectively pocketing in 15.5 million yuan and 12.46 million yuan, according to the network. Enditem
