BEIJING, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Wang Gang, a Communist Party of China (CPC) senior official, met here on Thursday afternoon with Yamasaki Taku, the former Japanese Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) secretary-general.

Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, said developing the Sino-Japanese friendship was in the fundamental interest of the two countries and two peoples, as well as to the peace, stability and prosperity of Asia and the world as a whole.

China would work with Japan to continue to expand the cooperation and exchanges in various fields, and promote a long-term sound and stable development of the bilateral relations, he said.
