LONDON, July 17 (Xinhua) -- The British capital is one of the most important cities in Europe for Chinese enterprises, London's new mayor said Thursday, as he called for more investments from China.

Mayor Boris Johnson made the remarks at a cocktail party following the release of the 2007-2008 annual report of London's investment agency

His visit to Beijing next month, the first since taking office in May, is likely to have fruitful results, Johnson told Xinhua.

He added that foreign direct investments, a crucial guarantee for London's status as an important financial center, totaled 52 billion pounds (104 billion U.S. dollars) annually and have created more than 1 million jobs.

It is reported that only six Chinese enterprises have so far been listed at the London Stock Exchange's main board market. In addition, 62 Chinese enterprises have been listed at its alternative investment market.

Chinese enterprises therefore have great potential to be listed and make investments in London.
