BEIJING, June 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao met his Kazakh counterpart Nursultan Nazarbayev here Saturday for talks on ways to enhance the strategic partnership between the two countries.
Hu arrived in the Kazakh capital of Astana Friday for a state visit to the Central Asian nation, where he met with Nazarbayev as well as other Kazakh leaders.
Following are the highlights of President Hu's activities on Saturday.
ASTANA -- Hu held talks with President Nazarbayev on Saturday, and both leaders witnessed the signing of a number of cooperation documents.
In order to further advance the strategic partnership with Kazakhstan, Hu put forward several proposals, including enhancing mutual trust through close high-level contact, expanding practical cooperation for mutual benefits, and stepping up cooperation in multilateral frameworks to safeguard common interests.
ASTANA -- When meeting here with Kazakh Prime Minister Karim Masimov Saturday afternoon, Hu said that China was ready to work with Kazakh leaders to push forward comprehensive and extensive development of the strategic partnership between the two countries.
The Chinese president said the two countries should carry out a joint study on cooperation in the development and use of clean energy, including wind and solar power.
China and Kazakhstan should also earnestly carry on cooperative projects in non-resources sectors by expanding collaboration in modernized agriculture, border port construction, large-scale petro-chemical projects and transport, Hu said.
ASTANA -- On Saturday, Hu also met with Kasymzhomart Tokaev, Kazakhstan's Senate Chairman, and Oral Muhamedjanov, chairman of the Mazhlis, or the lower chamber of the Kazakh parliament.
During the meetings, Hu lauded the important role of the Kazakh parliament in advancing mutually beneficial cooperation with China.
He said China supported exchanges and cooperation between the two legislatures in various areas, at various levels and through various channels.
