BEIJING, May 10 (Xinhuanet) -- Visiting Chinese Minister of National Defense Liang Guanglie continued his tour of U.S. defense facilities after leaving Washington. On Tuesday, the minister and his delegation were to travel to Miami, Florida to visit the U.S. Southern Command and its commander, Air Force General Douglas Fraser.

The command is responsible for all U.S. military activities in South America and Central America. There, Southcom officials highlighted opportunities for practical cooperation in areas such as humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, and expanded the conversation on non-traditional security cooperation efforts.

Minister Liang has said he hopes to see sound and steady development of military ties between China and the US. While, the American Forces Press Service noted that Liang’s visit occurs at a time when the armed forces of both nations are seeking to expand cooperation, improve understanding, build trust and reduce differences.
