Fan Liqing, spokeswoman for the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office, said Wednesday both the mainland and Taiwan can "create conditions" for president Hu Jintao and premier Wen Jiabao's potential visits to the island province.

Visiting Kuomintang Honorary Chairman Lien Chan invited president Hu to tour Taiwan during their meeting Tuesday.

Premier Wen Jiabao once told reporters he is willing to visit Taiwan as a tourist after his retirement.

Asked whether it's possible that the two leaders could make the trip after they retire, the spokeswoman said both sides can "create conditions" to make it happen.
