Drivers of “Fast and Furious” car race stand trial in Beijing

The two drivers Yu, 20, and Tang, 21 involved in a real-life “Fast and Furious” drag race stood trail in Chaoyang People’s Court of Beijing on May 21.

On April 11, Yu drove a red Ferrari against Tang's green Lamborghini on Datun Road, Chaoyang district with a speed between 179 to 215 km/h, exceeding the speed limit inside the tunnel for over three times.

Both vehicles were severely damaged when they careered through a tunnel guardrail, before smashing into walls, according to Xinhua News Agency.

Tang was sentenced five months detention with a 10,000 yuan ($ 1,587) fine, while Yu, a senior student in high school, was sentenced four months detention with a fine of 8,000 yuan ($ 1,269).

Both the young men pleaded guilty and made an apology.
