An out-of-control bus hurtled into a group of commuters queuing at its terminal near Sihui Tuesday afternoon, killing one and leaving four injured. A witness told the Global Times that the No. 322 bus was about to pull in but suddenly went out of control around 2 pm Tuesday.
It first hit a traffic sign and then carried on up the road. However, it failed to stop and mounted the curb in the area where passengers were waiting for the bus, destroying many guardrails.
The injured people were taken to nearby Chaoyang Hospital. A young man died despite all efforts to resuscitate him. A witness believed that brake failure and the slippery road caused the accident.
However, according to the official press release provided by the Beijing Public Transport Group Co., Ltd., the accident happened when the bus was waiting for passengers to get on but accidentally started by itself.
Although the driver tried to stop it, the bus still hit a crowd waiting at the bus stop, the bus finally stopped after colliding with other buses that had stopped at the station.
According to Chaoyang Hospital, there was, in total, 1 death and 4 injured. The young man who died was Li Junbo, an 18-year-old. One of the injured people suffered a fracture and the other 3 were slightly wounded. One of the injured left the hospital after treatment.
The cause of the accident was still under investigation.
