A girl has her throat examined at a kindergarten in Shanghai yesterday.

From kindergartens to universities, all educational establishments have been told to strengthen checks on the health and attendance of students and teachers and report to health authorities as part of the city's measures to prevent the spread of the H7N9 bird flu virus.

Three more cases of bird flu infection were reported yesterday, bringing the number of cases in China to 21.

Health officials believe people are contracting the virus through contact with infected fowl and there's no evidence it is spreading easily between people.
