New death case confirmed of Ebola in DRC

KINSHASA, May 24 (Xinhua) -- A new death of a confirmed case of Ebola was reported on Thursday in the Bikoro Health Zone in Equateur province, southwest of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), according to the Ministry of Health.

For the moment, a total of 52 cases of haemorrhagic fever have been reported in the region, including 31 confirmed of Ebola, 13 probable and 8 suspected, according to Minister of Health, Oly Ilunga.

Launched since Monday, the vaccination campaign is underway in this region where the epidemic has been declared by the authorities in three health zones since May 8th.

In a statement released Wednesday, the Minister of Health and other partners including Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) engaged in the response to the epidemic lamented the resistance of patients against treatment in isolation centers.

Two people have already died in their villages after fleeing the isolation center.
