Jinshan Peasant Painting is a new plant in the folk-art soil in the region south to the Yangtze River. With the local art as the juncture and integrating the mass's intelligence, it sets up a new style of modern folk painting in our country at the end of 1970s with the development and help by experts under the support of leaders.
It's been recognized by the both Chinese and foreign experts and favored by the visitors. In 1980, Jinshan Peasant Painting was exhibited at Brussels International Exposition in Belgium for the first time. After that, over 2700 works of Jinshan Peasant Painting had been exhibited in 17 countries of Europe, America, Asia and Australia successively. In 1989, Jinshan Peasant Painting Gallery was established.
From 1977 to 1997, over 5000 works had been displayed in nearly 100 exhibitions in many cities, such as Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Guangzhou, Xi'an, Wuhan, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Changchun, Nanning and Xining. Over 120 works have been successively collected by China Art Gallery, China Painting Art Research Institute, China Folkart Museum (being-built), Shanghai Fine Arts Association and Shanghai Art Gallery.
Furthermore, over 30 people have won first-class prizes at the state-level or at the provincial and municipal level. In 1988, it's named as Modern "Folk Painting Center" by China Culture Ministry. A large number of excellent artists have sprung up. Chen Furong, Ruan Sidi, Zhang Xinying, Chen Dehua have been absorbed into China Art Gallery and Shanghai Fine Arts Association. Zhang Xinying has been awarded the title of "First-rate Folk Artist" by UNESCO. A batch of young artists is more hardworking and innovative. So far, over 600 Jinshan Peasant Paintings are available on Internet.
