MONTEVIDEO, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Cuban cyclist Yoanka Gonzalez on Wednesday won the women's speed cycling 25-kilometer track race event at Uruguay's Track and Route Cycling Pan American, winning the first medal for Cuba in this event.

Gonzalez totaled 32 points and defeated Mexican cyclist Belem Guerrero, who won the silver medal with 27 points at Montevideos Municipal Cycle Track.

Meanwhile, Argentine cyclist Valeria Muller won the bronze medal with 21 points.

Gonzalez, world track champion, won three of the last four sprints to defeat Guerrero, the recent Venezuela-2007 Pan American champion.

Yoanka already has her Beijing-2008 pass ensured, but Guerrero is still seeking hers.

Uruguay's Track and Route Cycling Pan American event started on May 4 and concludes on May 11 with the participation of 25 countries and some 250 athletes.
