BUENOS AIRES, May 16 (Xinhua) -- Independiente and Colon advanced to the last four of Argentina's Primera Division on Saturday by winning their respective quarterfinals on penalties.

Independiente beat Estudiantes 4-1 in their shootout after a goalless 90 minutes while Colon prevailed 5-3 on penalties following a 1-1 stalemate with Talleres Cordoba.

Julio Falcioni's side, who were reduced to 10 players just before the hour mark when Thomas Ortega was shown a second yellow card for a bad foul, had Sebastian Sosa to thank for their victory.

The Uruguayan goalkeeper kept out attempts from Martin Cauteruccio and Fabian Noguera in the penalty shootout, having already saved two shots on target during the course of the match.

Luis Rodriguez converted the decisive spot kick for Colon after Rafael Perez missed his attempt. Earlier, Franco Fragapane struck for the visitors to cancel out an early Alexis Castro goal for Colon.

Both teams finished the match with 10 players after Eric Meza and Jose Mauri were dismissed in the second half.

In Sunday's quarterfinals, Boga Juniors will host River Plate and Velez Sarsfield are at home to Racing Club. Enditem
